Dee-lightful Flower Tam

Dee-lightful Flower Tam


The beginning motif is from “Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs” by Edie Eckman.
Hook size: US I 9/5.50mm
Note: It helps to keep a marker at the beginning of each round.
Flower
Begin with sliding loop.
Rnd 1 Ch3, 11 dc in ring, join with slip st to top of ch-3. (12 dc)
Rnd 2 Ch 1, (sc, ch 7, sc, ch1) in same stitch, *skip 1 dc, (sc, ch 7, sc, ch 1) in next dc; repeat from * four more times, join with slip st to first sc.
Rnd 3 Ch 1, (sc, 2 hdc, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, 2 hdc, sc) in each ch 7 space around, join with slip st to first sc. Fasten Off.
Hat
Rnd 1 Join with sc in any ch 2 space, ch 8, *sc in next ch 2 sp, ch 8; repeat from * 5 more times, sl st in first sc to join. (6 ch-8 spaces)
Rnd 2 ch 1, sc, (ch 5, sc in ch space from previous round, ch 5, sc in next sc) around, sl st in first sc to join. (12 ch-5 spaces)
Rnd 3 ch 1, sc, (ch 4, sc in ch space from previous round, ch 4, sc in next sc) around, ch 2, dc into first sc to join. (24 ch-4 spaces)
Rnd 4 ch 1, sc, ch 5, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 22 more times, ch 2, dc into first sc to join. (24 ch-5 spaces)
Rnd 5 ch 1, sc, ch 6, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 22 more times, ch 3, dc into first sc to join. (24 ch-6 spaces)
Rnd 6 ch 1, sc, ch 7, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 22 more times, ch 3, tr into first sc to join. (24 ch-7 spaces)
Rnd 7 ch 1, sc, ch 8, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 22 more times, ch 4, tr into first sc to join. (24 ch-8 spaces)
Rnd 8 & 9 repeat rnd 6
Rnd 10 ch 1, sc, ch 6, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 22 more times, ch 3, tr into first sc to join. (24 ch-7 spaces)
Rnd 11 ch 1, sc, ch 5, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 22 more times, ch 3, dc into first sc to join. (24 ch-6 spaces)
Rnd 12 ch 1, sc, ch 4, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 22 more times, ch 2, dc into first sc to join. (24 ch-5 spaces)
Rnd 13 ch 1, sc, ch 3, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 22 more times, ch 2, dc into first sc to join. (24 ch-4 spaces)
Rnd 14 ch 1, sc, ch 2, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 23 more times, slip st into first sc to join. (24 ch-3 spaces)
Rnd 15 ch 1, sc, sc in same st, 2 sc in next ch space, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next ch space) around, slip st first sc.
Rnd 16 ch 3, dc in each st around, slip st in 3rd ch of first ch 3. Finish off.
This hat is supposed to be big and baggy. It is worn over all your hair and sort of tucked behind your ears. It might be helpful to use a bobby pin or two to keep it in place.

  6. I tried this with a size G hook and simply soft yarn, I ended up having to add a few rows and make the brim wider. It ended up working out pretty well though, it's still baggy and holds my hair up but it's snug enough around that I don't have to bobby pin it in place.

  7. Just finished this today...I used 4 ply variegated with a 5mm hook and it fits perfectly with no need for Bobby pins. Awesome pattern, thanks!

  8. Some things seem to be missing in the pattern...like "repeat from star...." when there is no star. I had trouble with the join instructions at the end of some rounds. Maybe it's me?
