Dee-lightful Snowflake Tam


The beginning motif is from “Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs” by Edie Eckman.
Note: It helps to keep a marker at the beginning of each round.
Begin with sliding loop.
Rnd 1 Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch-1), *dc in ring, ch 1; repeat from * five more times, dc in ring, join with hdc to third chain of ch-4. (8 dc)
Rnd 2 ch 1, sc in space made by joining hdc, *ch 5, sc in next ch-1 space; repeat from * six more times, ch 2, join with dc to first sc.
Rnd 3 Ch 4, sc in space made by joining dc, *ch 5, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-5 space; repeat from * six more times, ch 2, join with dc to first chain of beginning ch-4.
Rnd 4 Ch 4, sc in space made by joining dc, *ch 7, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-5 space; repeat from * six more times, ch 3, join with tr to first chain of beginning ch-4.
Rnd 5 Ch 4, sc in space made by joining tr, * ch 9, (ch, ch 3, sc) in next ch-7 space; repeat from * six more times, ch 4, join with dtr in first chain of beginning ch-4.
Rnd 6 Ch 4, 5 sc in space made by joining dtr, * ch 5, (5sc, ch 3, 5 sc) in next ch-9 space; repeat from * six more times, ch 5, 5 sc in last space, join with slip st to first chain of beginning ch-4, slip st in ch-4.
Rnd 7 Ch 1, sc, *ch 6, dc into next ch-5 space, ch 6, sc in next ch-3 space; repeat from * 6 more times, ch 6, dc into next ch-5 space, ch 3, dc into first sc. (16 ch-6 spaces)
Rnd 8 Ch 1, sc, *ch 7, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 14 more times, ch 3, tr in first sc. (16 ch-7 spaces)
Rnd 9 Ch 1, sc, *ch 8, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 14 more times, ch 4, tr in first sc. (16 ch-8 spaces)
Rnd 10  Ch 1, sc, *ch 9, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 14 more times,  ch 4, dtr in first sc. (16 ch-9 spaces)

Rnd 13 Ch 1, sc, *ch 6, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 14 more times, ch 3, dc in first sc. (16 ch-6 spaces)
Rnd 14 Ch 1, sc, *ch 5, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 14 more times, ch 2, dc in first sc. (16 ch-5 spaces)
Rnd 15 Ch 1, sc, *ch 4, sc in ch space from previous round; repeat from * 15 more times, slip st in first sc. (16 ch-4 spaces)
Rnd 16 Ch 3, *4 dc in next ch space from previous round; dc in next sc; repeat from * 15 more times, 4 dc in last ch space, slip st in third ch of first ch-3. Finish off.



This hat is supposed to be big and baggy. You wear it over your hair and sort of tucked behind your ears. Enjoy!
